*On Fri, Feb 15, the Payson FBLA chapter will be hosting a Coaches VS Cancer game during Senior Night against Western.  T-shirt order forms will be in the office and various other campaigns will be placed throughout the school and the community to raise funds for the cause.  More information will be listed on the school's website.  If you have any other questions, contact a FBLA member.

*The Music Boosters are sponsoring a Valentines Dinner & Dance on Feb 16 from 6:00-10:00 pm in the EMPR.  Dinner music will be provided by Ned Behrensmeyer and the dance music will be by the Horn Dogs.  The dinner will be pork loin, baked potatoes, green beans and salad.  Price for the entire evening is $15.00, and reservations are requested by Feb 13 for the meal.  Admission for just the dance is $5.00 for adult and $3.00 for students at the door after 7:00 pm. 
 
*There will be a table tennis tournament held on Feb 17 in Quincy.  Entry fee is $15.00 and there is a flyer on the office window with more information.

Scholarships

  • Altrusa International of Quincy is offering the “Patricia and Leonard Kramer Memorial Scholarship” to an Adams County high school senior.  This $1,000.00 scholarship will go directly to the institution.  To be eligible your GPA has to be 2.8 or higher.  Applications are available in Mrs. Callahan’s office.  Deadline is March 15.
  • The Adams County Farm Bureau Foundation is offering children of Farm Bureau members an opportunity for a $1,000.00 scholarship.  Some of the criteria include:  rank in class, GPA, ACT score, demonstrated interest in agriculture or related field, and demonstrated leadership.  Applications are available from Mrs. Callahan.  Deadline is March 12.
  • The Lillian E. Glover Scholarship is available to graduating seniors planning to major in Education.  Your GPA must be above a 3.0.  See Mrs. Callahan for an application.  Deadline is February 15.
  • Farmers Bank of Liberty essays are due to Mrs. Callahan on Fri, Jan 25.
  • The Western Chapter of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers is accepting applications for the 2013 Baxter Memorial Scholarship. To apply you must be planning on majoring in some engineering discipline.  Applications must be received by Feb 22 and are available from Mrs. Callahan.
  • The Ellis Fesler Memorial Medical Scholarship was created to provide financial aid to a graduating senior from Payson High School who will be majoring in the medical field.  Applications are available in her office and are due to Mrs. Callahan on or before Fri, March 15.
  • The second Ellis Memorial Scholarship is open to all Payson High School seniors no matter their major.  Applications for these are also in Mrs. Callahan’s office and are due on or before Fri, March 15.
  • 1st Farm Credit Services is committed to lending a hand to people in agriculture and rural Illinois.  High School seniors who are pursuing a higher education in agriculture or a rural life-related field of study may apply for their scholarship at http://www.1stfarmcredit.com.  Application deadline is Feb 15.
  • The Larimore Memorial Scholarship is open to all Payson seniors who plan to attend JWCC next fall.  See Mrs. Callahan for an application.  The deadline is March 15.
  • The Elizabeth House Scholarship is open to all graduating seniors from Payson High School.  The scholarship is for one year and may be used for expenses incurred by the student when entering college or a trade/technical school.  Mrs Callahan has the applications, and the deadline for returning them to her is March 15.
  • The Accounting Scholarship was created to provide financial aid for a graduating senior from Payson High School who is pursuing a career in accounting.  Deadline is March 15 to Mrs. Callahan--applications can be obtained from Mrs. Callahan.
  • The Buick Achievers scholarship program is looking for applicants who plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design, or business, with an interest in the automotive industry.  Visit their website for more information:  www.buickachievers.com.
  • The Illinois Lumber and Material Dealers Educational Foundation has scholarships available to those individuals whose intent is to pursue a degree in lumber and building materials or an allied field.  You must submit a proposed program of study to show your true intent.  Scholarship applications are available from Mrs. Callahan.  Deadline is March 15.
  • The Plainville Lions Club Scholarship applications are available from Mrs. Callahan.  Graduating Payson High School seniors regardless of intended major or postsecondary choice may apply.  Students will be selected based on academics and need for funds.  Deadline is March 15 to Mrs. Callahan.
  • The Payson Masons are offering a scholarship to Payson seniors.  Students will be selected based on goals, participation in extracurricular activities, and a need for financial assistance rather than high scholastic grades.  Applications can be obtained from Mrs. Callahan, and need to be returned to her on or before March 15.
  • The Kira Kenady Memorial Scholarship applications are available in Mrs. Callahan's office.  Any graduating Payson High School senior may apply.  Selection for this scholarship will NOT be based solely on scholastic grades.  Deadline to Mrs. Callahan is March 15.

  • The Western Chapter of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers is accepting applications for the 2013 Baxter Memorial Scholarship. To apply you must be planning on majoring in some engineering discipline.  Applications must be received by Feb 22 and are available from Mrs. Callahan.
  • The Ellis Fesler Memorial Medical Scholarship was created to provide financial aid to a graduating senior from Payson High School who will be majoring in the medical field.  Applications are available in her office and are due to Mrs. Callahan on or before Fri, March 15.
  • The second Ellis Memorial Scholarship is open to all Payson High School seniors no matter their major.  Applications for these are also in Mrs. Callahan’s office and are due on or before Fri, March 15.
  • 1st Farm Credit Services is committed to lending a hand to people in agriculture and rural Illinois.  High School seniors who are pursuing a higher education in agriculture or a rural life-related field of study may apply for their scholarship at http://www.1stfarmcredit.com.  Application deadline is Feb 15.

  • Altrusa International of Quincy is offering the “Patricia and Leonard Kramer Memorial Scholarship” to an Adams County high school senior.  This $1,000.00 scholarship will go directly to the institution.  To be eligible your GPA has to be 2.8 or higher.  Applications are available in Mrs. Callahan’s office.  Deadline is March 15.
  • The Adams County Farm Bureau Foundation is offering children of Farm Bureau members an opportunity for a $1,000.00 scholarship.  Some of the criteria include:  rank in class, GPA, ACT score, demonstrated interest in agriculture or related field, and demonstrated leadership.  Applications are available from Mrs. Callahan.  Deadline is March 12.
  • The Lillian E. Glover Scholarship is available to graduating seniors planning to major in Education.  Your GPA must be above a 3.0.  See Mrs. Callahan for an application.  Deadline is February 15.

Valentine's Dinner & Dance

January 15, 2013

There will be a Valentine's Dinner and Dance sponsored by the Payson Music Boosters on Saturday, February 16, from 6:00-10:00 p.m. at the Elementary multi-purpose room.  The meal includes pork loin, baked potato, green beans, salad and a drink.  Cost is $15.  Dinner music will be provided by Ned Behrensmeyer.  Admission for just the dance is $5 for adults and  $3 for students at the door after 7:00 p.m.  Dance music will be provided by The Horn Dogs.  Tickets are available from any band member, can by purchased at the high school or grade school offices or by calling 217-656-3099.   Advanced reservations are requested by February 13 for the meal.
