Cell Phone Policy Updated

February 20, 2015

The Payson School board approved an updated cell phone policy on February 19, 2015.  The policy is stated below:

USE OF CELL PHONES

Students are not permitted to have cell phones or other electronic devices in any manner that disrupts the educational environment or violates the rights of others, including using the device to take photographs in locker rooms or bathrooms, cheat, or otherwise violate student conduct rules. They must be on silent mode and kept in their lockers during the school day.

Students are allowed to use their cell phones/electronic devices between classes at their lockers only. Cell phones/electronic devices are not to be used anywhere else in the building during the school day, which includes no use in the lunch room. Students may ask to use the school’s phone should they need to make a personal call.
Exceptions to this policy may include: (a) the supervising classroom teacher grants permission with prior approval from the building administrator; (b) use of the device is provided in a student’s individualized education program (IEP). Students who violate this policy will be dealt with in this manner:

1st offense – Written warning and device confiscated. Electronic device may be picked up by student at the end of the day in the office.

2nd offense – 1-hour after school detention, parent notified and electronic device confiscated. Parent must pick up electronic device at the school office.

3rd offense – 4 hour Saturday detention, parent notified and electronic device confiscated. Parent must pick up electronic device at the school office.

4th offense – Student banned from having electronic device at school. Infraction results in ISS (In School Suspension).

Elementary Penny Wars: Pay It Forward

February 18, 2015

February 23-27 (pledges accepted through March 6) we will be in a full scale battle as pennies are dragged in from all the nooks and crannies that those little coins tend to land.  This is how the war works.  Each grade level will have a bucket.  They put their pennies in their own bucket.  However, the other coins and dollar bills that they bring will be placed in the buckets of their competitors. Those coins will count against that grade level.  A quarter will be a negative 25, a dime is negative 10, etc.  The grade level with the most points by Friday will be declared the winner. This is about giving, not receiving.  We are donating our “pennies” to the Hannel family.  A google document has been created in which others can help with our Pay it Forward campaign. This is the link:   https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/165--7ZxCcwP4sbS7yhKb555RIwn4qeoORfrCWpc8jaQ/edit?usp=sharing.  Please SHARE IT!!  Tweet the link, put it on Facebook.   Whatever works for you, but we ask that the word gets spread as much as possible.
